In 1999, in a small Italian restaurant in Sydney, Sam Gabrielian made and served his first cup of coffee. And so, we began.
Sam rapidly honed his skills as a Barista, purchased his first cafe in Chatswood in 2001, and began intensively and obsessively researching coffee. Sydney’s coffee drinkers soon discovered the secret, and Sam’s cafe more than quadrupled its coffee output. Accolades began to flood in: Best Coffee in Chatswood 2001, Best Cappuccino in 2002 and again in 2003 and then, Sydney Barista Champion in 2004. In 2005, Sam was invited to be Chairman of the Barista Guild, and has since judged competitions the world over.
In 2006, Sam bravely sold his café, and embarked on a voyage of discovery. He visited remote coffee producing regions in South America to taste and source the perfect beans. He then travelled to France and Italy - seeking secrets of the optimum roast, the most delicious blends and the ultimate cup.
Brimming with knowledge and a myriad of coffee experiences, he returned home and formed Di Gabriel in 2006. Over the next few years, Di Gabriel became a favoured supplier of coffee to artisan cafes, high-end restaurants and several exclusive hotel establishments throughout Australia. With a passion for the best, and our focus on freshness Di Gabriel has collected many awards for his coffee roasts and is now synonymous with excellence in coffee.
Word soon spread to other parts of the world, and there was great interest in Asia - because good taste is not limited to one country. Responding to that interest, and having fallen in love with Asia, in particular the dynamic city of Hong Kong, Di Gabriel embarked on a mission to expand beyond the shores of Australia.
In 2013, after many more visits, Di Gabriel is now available in Hong Kong. We hope you will come, experience and enjoy the taste of Di Gabriel coffee as many hundreds of thousands of Australians have.
